Cookies

The site itself stores two things on your device: a record of your theme and a record of your cookie decision. Neither is a cookie and neither identifies you.

Google Analytics sets the two cookies listed below only when Analytics is allowed. If Advertising is allowed, Google AdSense and vendors listed in Google’s consent message may use additional cookies or local storage according to the choices made there. Advertising storage is not created by our code and may vary by vendor and purpose.

This table is generated from the same values the code uses, so it cannot drift out of date without the build failing.

The banner is called a cookie banner because that is what people call it, but the distinction matters for what actually happens on your device.

A cookie is sent to a server with every request. Local storage is not: it stays in your browser and is only read by code running on the page. Your theme and your cookie decision use local storage, which is why they never reach anyone, including us.

The table lists the storage created directly by this site and its Analytics configuration. Advertising storage is controlled through Google’s consent message and can vary with the vendors and purposes a visitor allows.

These cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot do what you have asked. If your cookie decision were not remembered, you would be asked again on every page. If your theme were not remembered, the site would forget it the moment you navigated.

Both are stored under the strictly necessary exemption in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which does not require consent. Neither is shared with anyone.

Google Analytics helps us see which tools get used and which pages fail, so we know what to build and fix next. It tells us that a page was viewed, not who viewed it.

No tool input or output is ever included in an analytics event. Analytics does not run at all on the Secret Scanner or its two guide pages, whatever you choose here.

Nothing loads until you accept. This is not the common arrangement where a tag loads immediately and waits for permission to use cookies. On this site, no request is made to Google at all until you have said yes.

No advertising script, slot or request exists until you allow Advertising. Google’s certified consent message then controls the additional vendor and purpose choices for visitors where it applies. Depending on those choices, Google AdSense and approved vendors may use cookies or local storage to deliver, limit, measure or personalise advertising.

No tool input or output is included in an advertising request. Advertising is disabled completely on the Secret Scanner and its two guide pages, regardless of either consent choice.

Use the control below, or the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page. Turning Analytics off stops measurement and clears its two named cookies. Turning Advertising off removes our ad units and pauses further ad requests. Google’s privacy-options control manages choices already recorded by its consent platform. No page reload is needed.

We keep your decision for 12 months. After that the banner returns, showing what you chose last time, and asks again.

It also returns early if we change the services we use. A decision you made about Google Analytics is not consent for something else, so we ask again rather than carrying it over.

If your browser blocks storage, the banner will say so. Your choice then applies to that visit only, and the site treats the failure as a refusal rather than as agreement.

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site data, and those controls override anything on this page. Clearing site data for devtools.codes removes all four items listed above, including your theme and your cookie decision, so the banner will appear again on your next visit.
